Fishmonger's tiles

Tiles made by James Duncan & Son in 1894 for the entrance to Alex Reid's fishmonger's shop at 126 Nithsdale Road. This panel shows a woman in classical dress by the bank of a river holding a freshly-caught fish on a line.

This panel of tiles was originally at the entrance to the shop but had to be moved due to vandalism. The interior of the shop also features a continuous frieze of tiles depicting ships and mermaids, and is one of the best examples of tilework by James Duncan & Son in Glasgow.
