Mr and Mrs Mahoney

A watercolour by an unknown artist depicting Mr and Mrs Mahoney and their children in their house in Blackfriars Street in the mid-19th century. Glasgow Cathedral and the Knox Monument can be seen through the window.

Mr Mahoney was a brass founder, gasfitter and bellhanger. Between the late 1840s and the early 1850s his workplace and his home were in Blackfriars Street. His business was obviously thriving for the furnishings shown here are luxurious, including an expensive fitted carpet.
