Brass door plate, door knob, key hole and door plate inlaid with coloured enamel from 4 Great Western Terrace in Dowanhill.
Great Western Terrace was designed in 1869 by Alexander "Greek" Thomson. Of the buildings in the terrace, No 4 has the best preserved of Thomson's interiors, retaining the Ionic screen which separates the front hall from the central hall. It also contains some of his best cast iron work on the stairwell and the galleries. Thomson had a strong classical style and classical motifs also appear in this sumptuous brass door furniture.
