School Board Certificate

A certificate presented in June 1883 to Mary Smith, a pupil at Dennistoun Public School, by the School Board of Glasgow.

Compulsory education for children aged 6-12 years was introduced by the Education (Scotland) Act of 1872, and the Glasgow School Board was set up in 1873 to take responsibility for education in Glasgow.
