"Very Vulgar"

A cartoon from Tramway Car Sketches by J N, 1889, entitled "Very Vulgar."

Glasgow's first tramways opened in 1872. This series of cartoons illustrated the perils and frustrations of travelling aboard the "caurs", which were used by people from all classes and of all ages. Here, a middle class lady and gentleman are appalled by a man blowing his nose without using a handkerchief. Note the uncomfortable-looking bench seats.
