Tram 770

James McCulloch (d 1931) was a Glasgow Corporation Tramways motorman and is pictured here with car 770, a phase 1 standard tram. The Corporation Tramways Department sometimes altered tram designs to effect improvements and 770 was a unique experimental tram with reversed stairways and full-length canopies.

McCulloch started as a points boy and later worked as a conductor on the horse-drawn trams. He rose through the ranks and became a motorman (or driver) and then an inspector. When he died in 1931 he was employed as a motor inspector.
