Coplawhill machine shop

The light machine workshop at Coplawhill tram depot in Pollokshields in the 1920s.

It must have been incredibly noisy in this huge workshop. In each row all the machines are powered by belts coming from the overhead line shafts. As was common in industry at the time, each line shaft was turned by just one motor, making it an economical way to run many machines at one time.
