Advertisement for the outfitters R W Forsyth in Glasgow University Magazine 21 February 1923. The company is styled as "foreign and colonial outfitters" and refers to the company's business in supplying clothing for foreign travel and for those leaving Scotland to live and work in British colonies.
During the 1920s there were few ordinary Glaswegians who could afford the time and expense for foreign travel. However, adventurous graduates often sought to begin their careers in civil service posts around the British Empire and Forsyth's was one of many companies that offered a wide range of clothing specially designed for wear in the warm climates of the east.
