Allen Thomson

Allen Thomson (1809-1884) was Regius Professor of Anatomy at the University of Glasgow 1848-1877 and Clerk of Senate 1851-1855.

Educated at the University of Edinburgh (where he was awarded the degree of MD in 1830) and in Paris, Thomson was Professor of Physiology at the University of Edinburgh before coming to Glasgow. Recognised as one of the greatest biologists of the 19th century, he was a Friend of the Royal Society (1848) and a president of the British Association, 1876.
