"Scotch Broth" was a bill of variety entertainment managed by Saltcoats impresario Harry Kemp (d 1972). It provided typical seaside entertainment of the late 1920s, specifically aimed at holiday-makers from Glasgow. This show featured Jack Holden (standing on the right in the back row), a young, comic who was to become an established name in Glasgow music halls.
Harry was the son of cinema-owner George "President" Kemp (d 1926). George's cinemas included the La Scala in Saltcoats where he had introduced the first of the series of concert parties in 1922. On his father's retirement in 1925 Harry took over the business and continued to promote the legendary summer season shows at venues along the Ayrshire coast.
Kemp`s only Glasgow cinema, the Capitol in Ibrox, opened in April 1927 but was sold eighteen months later.
