The Arrival

Coloured cartoon from the Northern Looking Glass 20 February 1826 depicting a large and dishevelled man who has just disembarked from a steam boat, under the caption "The Arrival". The punning caption beneath makes clear that the passenger has not enjoyed his overnight voyage - that... birth's [or berth's] almost been the death of me." The joke might have been funnier spoken than set down in print!
