Coloured cartoon from the Glasgow Looking Glass 9 July 1825, entitled "Dancing Taught". The artist's joke is to place this with other cartoons carrying common advertisement titles of the day, in a spoof "Advertisements" section of the publication.
There were many travelling showmen in the 19th century who brought bears to perform on street corners and in fair grounds in Glasgow and other Scottish towns and cities.
