W R Mainds' watercolour sketch of a thatched cottage and lean-to at the south end of The Goat (later Kelvin Street, and later still Keith Street) in Partick, 1891.
The Goat got its name from an old Scots word for a trench or ditch, and presumably there was a drainage ditch along the side of the road. It connected Dumbarton Road and Castlebank (later renamed Beith) Street.
Partick's first police station was at the corner of Kelvin and Castlebank Streets, and it is said that a barrow such as the one in this picture was parked outside and wheeled round the village on a Friday night to pick up drunks and transport them to the cells.
