Opened on St Andrew's Day 1992 by Lord Provost Robert Innes, the Hilton Glasgow has 319 bedrooms, three top floors of executive rooms, three restaurants, a large ballroom and extensive conference, business and leisure facilities.
The decision to build a Hilton hotel in Glasgow was taken against the background of a doubling of overseas visitors to the city, and the opening of the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in 1985. Glasgow's ability to attract its share of the increasing number of conferences and corporate events was enhanced by the presence of a member of the highly-rated international hotel chain in the city.
