New Type P1 flats built by Glasgow Corporation Housing Department at Maukinfauld Road, Braidfauld, in 1947. They were built using foamslag slabs, although the roughcast finish on the external walls made them indistinguishable from houses of more traditional construction. Foamslag is a cellular lightweight aggregate derived from blast furnace slag.
The scheme at Maukinfauld Road was one of the first built with foamslag slabs after the Second World War. During the war, foamslag houses had been erected in Penilee, and others were built afterwards at Pollok and Priesthill. The slabs were prefabricated at the Housing Department's Precasting Factory at nearby Amulree Street, then transported by trailer to the site for assembly.
Type P1 is a flatted block of four houses. In each, the accommodation consists of a living room, three bedrooms, bathroom and kitchenette, with storage space for clothes, linen, pram and other items.
