The Maryhill Tree

A well-known Glasgow landmark, "The Maryhill tree" on the back of a council lorry in North Woodside Road. The tree was on its way to a temporary home in Ruchill Park. Also on board is Louise Bachelor, recording a news item for Reporting Scotland with a BBC television crew.

The Maryhill tree was a goat willow that flourished for more than twenty years in the 50 feet-high chimney of a former beer-bottling plant in North Woodside Road. It was adopted as the symbol of the city council's Maryhill Corridor Renewal Project.

The chimney had to be demolished for safety reasons, but the tree was removed first and lowered safely to the ground. It was later re-planted in the original chimney top, and installed on a landscaped site at the corner of Maryhill Road and North Woodside Road.
