Christmas 1909

The latest fashions in ladies' blouses for 1909, illustrated in Copland & Lye's catalogue of Christmas gifts. A strong French influence is evident.

Several department stores in Glasgow were in competition to supply up-to-date Paris fashions for women customers. Buyers for Copland & Lye prided themselves on being responsive to the needs of their clientele. Scottish tweeds and knitwear, Italian shoes and handbags and Swiss cottons and jewellery also attracted female shoppers, as did a first-class hairdresssing salon and the restaurant. Many a Glasgow girl went down the aisle in an exclusive wedding dress supplied by Copland & Lye.
