Robert Dalglish

A Thomas Annan photograph of a portrait of Robert Dalglish (1770-1844). The painting was by John Graham-Gilbert.

Dalglish who was a weaver, merchant and calico printer who was a partner in R Dalglish, Falconer & Co, a firm with a print works at Lennoxtown in the Blane Valley. He was a councillor from 1825 to 1833, Dean of Guild from 1825 to 1826 and Lord Provost between 1830 to 1832. He was also a preceptor of Hutchesons' Hospital and it is said that, during one of Glasgow's periodic floods, he sailed up Bridgegate to deliver food to people trapped in their homes.

His son, also Robert (1808-1880), was an MP for Glasgow from 1857 until 1874.
