"Dausin' In The Sauty", a song preserved in a scrapbook entitled Old Glasgow Street Songs etc, 1850 which is held at the Mitchell Library.
The song was probably performed in the famous singing saloons of the Saltmarket and it celebrates the "select society" that lived there, in one of Glasgow's most overcrowded and filthy slum areas. A "bauk" is strip of ground or a narrow path, and probably refers to a close or wynd. If the singer was "dossing" or sleeping rough, it is hardly surprising he pays no rates! A "clure" is a dint, or a blow.
