The Pride of Glasgow

"The Pride Of Glasgow", a McGonagall-esque love song which has been preserved in a scrapbook entitled Old Glasgow Street Songs etc, 1850 held at the Mitchell Library.

This song tells of a young man who fell in love with a Glasgow maid. "She's proper, tall and quite complete, like waxwork made from heart to feet."

The young man was "cut down" by a "daring foe" in India: a sad fate, even for someone who wrote such dreadful doggerel as this!
