A photograph of a portrait of John Dunlop(1580-1662), the first laird of Garnkirk. The artist's identity is unknown.
Dunlop was a merchant and banker who served as a Burgess of Glasgow in 1631. In 1634 he acquired the Garnkirk estate. The Dunlops became prominent in Glasgow's tobacco trade. John's descendants subsequently acquired land between Tollcross and Shettleston which they sold in 1897 to Glasgow Corporation, and which was laid out as Tollcross Park.
