This photograph of Jim Watt was taken as he received the Freedom of the City of Glasgow in January 1981. He had been awarded an MBE a year before.
Watt was brought up in Bridgeton and Possilpark. In 1979 he became lightweight boxing champion of the world following his defeat of Alfredo Pitalua in front of 10,000 spectators at the Kelvin Hall. He was respected as a skillful fighter and an articulate commentator on the sport.
