Clyde Card

The launch of Clyde Card, captured for the November 1992 issue of Glasgow City Council's newspaper The Bulletin. Director of Performing Arts Bob Palmer (left) laughs along with actress Una McLean and Managing Director of Radio Clyde, Jimmy Gordon. The Clyde Card, which allowed holders discounts on a range of leisure and entertainment events in Glasgow, was sponsored by Radio Clyde.

Launched in 1973, Radio Clyde was one of the UK's first licensed commercial radio stations and claims to be the country's single most successful station. Since the early days Clyde has become a part of Glasgow and West Central Scotland's culture, attracting audience figures of over 1 million listeners who tune in each week to Clyde 1 and Clyde 2 to hear a diverse programme of music and sport.

Bob Palmer was regarded as the mastermind behind Glasgow's year as European City of Culture in 1990. Una McLean is well known to Glasgow audiences as a comedienne, especially for her appearances in pantomime. After twenty-three years as Radio Clyde's managing director, Jimmy Gordon has held a number of posts, including chairman of Scottish Radio Holdings and the Scottish Tourist Board.
