The Records Management storage area of Glasgow City Archives material in floor B2 of the Mitchell Library, 1984.
The Records Management Section within Glasgow City Archives provides a service for City Council records. The existing programme provides a storage and retrieval service for files and other records which are no longer current, but which cannot be destroyed for administrative, legal or commercial reasons.
The Records Management Section was established in the 1980s under the auspices of Strathclyde Regional Archives, beginning as a pilot scheme for the Chief Executive’s Department and extended to other Regional Departments such as Social Work and Education. Since 1996 it has taken new records from the City Council departments and from the Joint Police and Water authorities. It retains the records of Strathclyde Regional Council and many of its sub-regional offices.
