Pettigrew & Stephens Sale, 1933

Items of ladies' clothing from the Lace Department illustrated in a sale catalogue issued by Pettigrew & Stephens in January 1933.

Berets had become fashionable in the early years of the decade, and a 1930 magazine claimed: "Whatever the weather, a beret is smart and serviceable. Every up-to-date girl wears one!" Berets also had the attraction that women with only the minimum of practical skills could run up their own at home.
