This photograph shows staff at work in the repairing factory in Bayne & Duckett's boot and shoe warehouse at the corner of Brunswick Street and Wilson Street. It is taken from a booklet issued by the firm to mark the opening of the new warehouse in 1928. The top floor location allows plenty of natural light to help the staff with their tasks.
The repairing factory was regarded as an important part of the business, and was claimed to be "the finest shoe-repairing factory in Great Britain." It was fitted by the British United Shoe Machinery Co with all the latest machinery and devices for the rapid and efficient repairing of shoes.
