Royal Visit, 1917

King George V at a review of 222 men and women from the Merchant Navy who had been torpedoed by enemy submarines. The review was held in Central Station during a royal visit to Glasgow in September 1917. The King is wearing naval uniform and is accompanied by officials of the Caledonioan Railway Co and Glasgow Corporation.

The King reviewed 222 officers, men and women of the Merchant Navy. Medals were presented. Among those to whom the King spoke were four stewardesses who had survived the sinking of the Lusitania.
