The first Glasgow directory was published in 1783 by John Tait. This image is taken from a facsimile reprint published in 1871 by Robert Forrester. Page 63 includes surnames from Scott to Sommerville and lists many shoe makers and other leather workers. Mrs Scott and Mrs Sheid were two of many women who were in business as wine and spirit merchants and publicans in the city.
