Tait's Directory p50

The first Glasgow directory was published in 1783 by John Tait. This image is taken from a facsimile reprint published in 1871 by Robert Forrester. Page 50 includes surnames from McMillan to McCarthur.

James McGill was one of the leading signatories of a petition presented to the Incorporation of the Hammermen of Glasgow on 17 May 1783. The petition expressed concern at the possibility of changes being made to the constitution of the Incorporation without due consultation and debate, or explanation of the reasons for change.
