Robert T Middleton (1831-1891) was a merchant and a Member of Parliament.
Middleton as the son of a Secession Church minister in Edinburgh and a self-made businessman who became a prosperous city merchant with his firm of Middleton & Kirkpatrick. A staunch supporter of the United Presbyterian Church, he was for many years an office-bearer and was instrumental in establishing a congregation near his home in Bearsden.
His interest in education led to Middleton becoming Chairman of the Glasgow Sabbath School Union and gaining election to the Glasgow School Board. He also took a strong interest in municipal affairs and represented the city as Liberal MP from 1880 to 1885.
