Trongate is one of Glasgow's four main streets meeting at Glasgow Cross.
This view from about 1891, looking east towards the Cross, highlights the narrow stone-fronted buildings on the north side of the street. Horses and people compete for space in the busy thoroughfare, public transport being provided by horse-drawn trams.
