In 1874, The Bailie’s caricaturist mocked the scramble for nominations to stand in the General Election of that year.
Among the candidates depicted are George Macliver (originally from Bristol), Councillor John Neil the biscuit manufacturer, Dr Charles Cameron the proprietor of the North British Daily Mail, and George Anderson Jnr.
