Born in Garngad in 1941 and educated in St Roch's primary school and St Mungo's Academy. He is a printer who is presently employed at Polestar, East Kilbride. An active trade unionist, he is president of the print union GPMU (Scotland) and serves on the National Executive Council. He was involved with the Garngad Heritage Group and is writing a history of the local junior football club, St Roch's FC.
