Curry Karaoke

Charan Gill (with the mic) at the launch of the Curry Karaoke Club, 9 April 2003. The club opened in the old Pumphouse building at the corner of the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre site in Finnieston, formerly occupied by Queen's Dock.

The club is managed by the daughters and son-in-law of Charan Gill, Managing Director of the Harlequin Restaurants group which created Glasgow's famous Ashoka restaurant chain. The concept was to cater to two of Glasgow's greatest loves, Indian food and "taking the floor." Gill is no stranger to the mic - for many years he was the singer with the banghra group Bombay Talkie.
