Robert Reid, or "Senex"

A Thomas Annan photograph of a portrait of Robert Reid (1773-1865). It was painted by James Lewis, who completed the work in 1824.

Reid was a Glasgow merchant who is best known for contributing a series of historical articles to the Glasgow Herald under the pen-name "Senex". These were collected together to form a work entitled Glasgow Past and Present which was first published in 1851. In 1864, at the age of 91, he wrote a volume called Old Glasgow and its Environs.
