An advertisement from the Post Office Glasgow directory of 1850-1851 for Hendry Brothers' Gutta Percha Depot in Dixon Street, indicating the many applications of the product. Gutta-percha is a natural latex similar to (but not so elastic as) rubber, derived from the percha and other East Asian trees. Getah is the Malay word for gum.
