Duke's Lodgings, Drygate

The Duke’s Lodgings in Drygate, c 1840s.

The lodgings of the Duke of Montrose were situated at the west end of Drygate, on a site previously occupied by the Prebendal Manses of the Rectors of Peebles and Eaglesham. The manses had passed from church hands after the Reformation, and had been rebuilt before they were acquired by James Graham, first Duke of Montrose (d 1742), at the beginning of the 18th century.
