Richard Hobson

Richard Hobson (b 1834) was Glasgow’s postmaster.

Hobson was an Englishman who started at the Post Office in St Martin’s-le-Grand in London before rising through the ranks. He became Glasgow’s postmaster in 1872. His tenure of office saw the purchase of property in George Square to permit the extension of the General Post Office 1875-1878, and a significant increase in the number of Post Office staff employed in the city.
