A photograph of a portrait of Helen Wallace (1712-1767). The identity of the artist is unknown.
Helen Wallace was the only child of John Wallace of Elderslie, a prominent Glasgow merchant. She married Archibald Campbell of Succoth and had four sons, including Sir Ilay Campbell (1734-1823) and John Campbell Jnr (1843-1821). The former became MP for the Glasgow Burghs 1784-1789 and a Solicitor General, a Lord Advocate and a Lord President of the Court of Session. The latter became Provost of Glasgow in 1788.
In 1767 the Wallace family estate at Elderslie was sold to the tobacco merchant Alexander Speirs.
