Bronze age pottery

A Bronze Age food vessel bowl found in sand while digging for the foundation of a building at Springfield Quay, 1878.

Irish bowl food vessels date from the earlier Bronze Age (between 2700 and 1400 BC). They are usually found in burials but a few have been uncovered in settlements. The largest concentrations are found in north eastern Ireland with lesser concentrations around Dublin and Wicklow and in the coastal areas of the north-east and south-west of Scotland, suggesting that the manufacture and use of these vessels spread along maritime trade routes.
